Cry Wolf - Patricia Briggs

Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack.and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she'd learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member - and as his mate.

After reading Patricia Brigg's short story Alpha & Omega I knew I just had to continue reading the series. The world she establishes of shape shifters coexisting with humans and having both similar and quite different rituals is very interesting and she makes us go on a journey of discovery with the heroine which I also found very compelling.

Cry Wolf opens where the short story leaves off. Anna has returned with Charles to the Marrock's pack and they are trying to get to know each other better and for a relationship. Due to Anna's lack of knowledge about herself and werewolves and due to Charles lack of knowledge about Omegas is not always easy for them.

One of things I liked better was the world building. I liked to know more about the Marrock, its place and function in the werewolves’ society and his goal for the future of his people. I'm intrigued and I want to know how he will accomplish that. It also helps that I did like Bran from the first even if part of his life is at first a puzzle and we don't get some explanations till later. They made sense but I can't help hoping that Briggs has better things planned for him.

Regarding the other characters Charles's brother seemed intriguing too and now I'm decided to pick up the Mercy Thompson series as soon as possible. I was also very intrigued by Asil, the lone wolf that lives with the Marrock's pack and that becomes an important part of the book's plot.

Although the Marrock would like to give Anna and Charles some time alone he is forced to ask his son to go hunt for a rogue wolf who has been killing people in the mountains. He is afraid such killings will bring attention to them before he is ready to disclosure their existence. Charles and Anna go up to the mountains and soon they realise that the situation is not that simple and they are up against someone very powerful that is determined to destroy Bran and Asil.

Anna's Omega characteristics are essential to the action and I get the feeling that she will reach her full potential in future books which makes me very anxious to get my hands in the next one.

  1. I really agree with you Ana! Bran is a very interesting character. I was a bit surprised when I read about his mate but in his logic, it made sense. I can't wait to see what Patricia Briggs will write about him in the future.;-)
The next Alpha & Omega will be release in June, if I'm not wrong. Still a few months away... *sigh* ;-)

  3. I really like this book! I strongly recommend the Mercedes Thompson series, though. There are four books. That should keep you busy until the next book comes out.

Also, Bran is mentioned in the other series, too. It might help you understand him a bit better.
